Hi. I'm interested in a new hula hoop for my daughter. She is 9 years old and wants a hoop like she has at school which are sturdier and heavier than what we can find at Walmart. The one she has at school for recess is water filled. Can you give us some guidance? 2" above her belly button is about 32.5". What size and what style should we get? Thanks!!!

Do you know if the tubing itself of the hoop she uses at school is larger than the hoops you found?  The one you referred to is made out of adult size tubing and weighs about 2 lbs and is not comfortable for many adults.  It is big and fairly heavy and will be pulling her in all directions.  Kid hoops use ½” tubing and adult hoops use a thicker ¾”.

Most kids her age are still using our kid’s hoops (same size tubing as walmart hoops but more sturdy) although some go on and start using their mom’s hoops around that age. It can be uncomfortable for some but she’d probably be ok.

We don’t typically do water hoops in the kid’s version as we have to charge extra to take the time to fill and seal the hoop but we CAN add some water to the kid’s size. Though if she’s good and ready to step up to adult size tubing, I’d recommend no water in those.

As far as style goes, all hoops within each category are EXACTLY the same underneath the tape. My only recommendation there is getting something with at least one layer of grip tape to help keep the hoop from slipping (like the hoop style you referenced below).
